This is going to be like no normal Valentine’s Day
We’re in lockdown, can’t go to stay anyway, can’t go anywhere for a romantic meal and for me, the biggest thing is that I’m going to have to prep a meal, clean up, wash up and tidy up, both before and after!
Pancake Day here at Fields Lodge Boutique B&B is a marvelous affair.
Why? You ask…. well, whereas normally pancakes are calorie loaded sugar fests, crazy for spiking your blood sugars and generally not that good for you, especially if you have an autoimmune condition….here at Fields Lodge, you can enjoy every mouthful, knowing that you are feeding your body mind and soul.
And, to avoid confusion, Crempog is Pancake in Welsh
Well, we’ve been open now just over 4 weeks and are adapting to the ‘New Normal’
The Welsh Government have allowed us to open our Dining Room , and so, we are back to serving breakfasts in here, albeit, slightly differently.
Instead of the glorious breakfast buffet, which was your first course, we now serve this directly from the kitchen for you.
You still have all the choice, but rather than actually help yourself, you choose what you would like and we bring it to you.
It’s not the same, but of course, the food does still taste delicious-check out what one of our recent guests said!

And then, once you have finished your first course, we then deliver to you, your hot, main dish-again served directly from the kitchen for you.
Our guests have been very pleased with how we are adapting, and I don’t feel it’s impacting too much.
Maybe the biggest change is that we now have set eating times, to ensure we can maintain social distancing, by only having 2 tables in the dining room at any one time. So, when you arrive, you can choose from the available time slots which one you would like.
As far as your rooms go, once you have checked in, we are not entering again until you have checked out, and so, should you need anything topped up whilst on your stay, you can let us know and we will pop whatever you require in a box and leave outside your room, ready for when you return.
That seems to be going ok with our guests to date too!
We have an e-guest in room book now, instead of the book you may have flicked through once you’re in your room, and we send you a link to that before you arrive, so you can start to get excited about your stay even more now!
We are now coming out of lockdown ans are opening our doors to guests this weekend
Breakfast in Bed!
At the moment, here in the B&B, we are offering the luxury of an in-room Breakfast experience, as, in Wales, we currently cannot open our communal rooms.
What a delight! To have breakfast in bed with no additional service charges!

Here we are in lockdown at the moment in sunny Pembrokeshire. We are so lucky to be in this area to live through these lockdown weeks.
So many past and future guests have contacted me to let me know how much they are missing their stay in Pembrokeshire this year, so far. So I wanted to try and bring a taste of Pembrokeshire to those that are missing our great county.
Then, catch up with all the Puffin goings on right here!Find all the latest with Fields Lodge Boutique B&B and our well connected network of Puffin experts.
There is plenty of hype going on around the Corona virus at the moment, driven in no small way by the media. There are stats around showing that the ‘ordinary’ flu virus we deal with every year, still kills more than this virus does, and yet, do we go into a melt down about the flu virus each year?
I love the seasons, I love to see the changes and I look forward to certain things happening at certain times of the year.
As I write this(February) I have already enjoyed watching the first snowdrops appear-there are certain places in Pembrokeshire where you will have a wall of snowdrops and I do love to go visit these.
Here at Fields Lodge Bed & Breakfast we have been wowing guests for years with the taste of our fudge. I have been asked so often in that time to sell it for mementos and gifts that I have now taken the decision to bring it to the general public. How did we do it?
OOO-exciting! Th judges have been announced for the Eviivo Hospitality Awards. We are honoured to be amongst the finalists in these prestigious awards. And, we are in TWO categories! I feel we are flying the flag for Wales & Pembrokeshire.
So, who are we being judged by? Our breakfasts are going to be judged by a Celebrity Chef-very scary to be judged by someone so knowledgeable.
I used to think this too actually about our Welsh Weather, that was until I got into the hospitality industry, what a surprise I had then, once I started taking more notice!
Whoop whoop! We have been shortlisted for TWO Eviivo awards!! A UK Based award ceremony, we have been successful in being declared finalists from all the applications received throughout the UK and couldn’t be more delighted!
We have been successful in the Tastiest Breakfast and also the Hidden Gem category. The awards ceremony takes place in October, so watch this space.
Bed and Breakfast…the two things you have to excel at, if you’re looking to run a successful establishment and create a great ambience for your guests. Sleep has so many repercussions into daily life, it’s a massively important topic for me.
The importance of Sleep
So, what’s my take on the importance of sleep…
Having spent a vast amount of time in my previous career travelling and therefore spending many nights in strange beds, I am a keen advocate of getting a good nights sleep.
And why is this? Well, years ago I noticed quite starkly how a poor night’s sleep impacted on my performance, behaviour and appetite during the following day. This is way before the internet and social media came on the scene. Just saying that is weird now though—can you imagine the world without those two things now??
Anyway, before the vast amount of information now available to us to advise us how important a good nights sleep is, I had worked it out for myself!
The boat will ferry you to the set down point on the island. Depending on whether the tide is low or high, will dictate how many steps you will have to climb. Once you’re at the top, the island is pretty flat, but to get up to the top there are quite a few steps to negotiate.
There is nothing on Skomer as far as cafes, restaurants are concerned. You can buy small bottle water at the starting point and again at the Farmhouse in the middle of the island but that’s it. So, you need to bring with you whatever you would like to eat for the day. You are usually on the island for 5 hours.
