    Sunshine Morning Prunes

    Fields Lodge Prunes
    Fields Lodge Prunes

Nothing keeps you regular like a portion of prunes!

Good lord, I can’t even believe I’ve just typed that!!! But that is what I heard my Nan say when I was very young. I can’t say I was a fan of them back then but I can definitely say I am a fan now.

The biggest reason is,  that we make our own here at Fields Lodge,  and so we know what’s gone in them and we can make them as yummy as possible for our lovely guests to enjoy.

So read on if you’d like to create some Fields Lodge Sunshine at home.

I call them our Sunshine Morning Prunes, as when I am making them, the aromas from the ingredients we marinade them in just makes me think of sunshine and glorious days. And the ‘morning’, well, that’s all to do with that being the best time of day for you to enjoy them.

I like them with a dollop of our Homemade Yogurt and a sprinkling of some of our homemade Granola-I usually choose our Vegan Coconut one, as there’s no added sweeteners at all in this, and yet it is still yummy.

    So, here’s the recipe

    Recipe

    Ingredients

500 gr Dried Prunes (choose Unsorbated ones to avoid any preservatives, but any dried prune will do)

A pot of Earl Grey Tea (either made with leaves or 2 tea bags)

    the zest of one orange

    1 cinnamon stick

    1 vanilla pod

    Method

Make the pot of Earl grey and leave to brew f0r 10 minutes, then take the leaves/bags out

Pop the Prunes in a container with an air tight lid that can go in the fridge

Pour the tea into the container to completely cover the prunes, add more water if required-you want the prunes completely covered

Pop in the cinnamon stick and the vanilla pod

Add in the grated zest of the orange and give it all a stir to mix it up

Cover and pop in fridge for 24 hours

After the 24 hours, the prunes will be nicely soaked and soft

At this point, if you wish, you can remove the vanilla pod and the cinnamon stick but I do leave it in

These will then keep in an airtight container in your fridge for a good few weeks

If you’re not used to eating prunes then start with 1 and work up from there, as if you go straight in for 6, you may well find you’ll have a bad belly, as it won’t be used to so much fibre!
