Great Taste Awards come to Fields Lodge

We are super excited to have been awarded a Great Taste Award for our homemade fudge, that we started giving our guests at Fields Lodge B&B over 10 years ago.

Of all the entries submitted to the Great Taste awards, run by the Guild of Fine Food, only 40% of these are successful in being granted the prestigious logo that can then be popped on the produce packaging with great pride.

Would we win?

Being honest, I was slightly worried that we had made ‘too good’ a batch of fudge to match my description of it!

We make the fudge on our 70 year old Aga, and so, depending on how hot the Aga is on a day, cam have an affect on the texture of the fudge. For the batch that we made for the entry…well, it was perfect! It cut beautifully, it was melt in the mouth delicious and it was cut into lovely uniform squares and looked fabulous.

The only trouble was, I had described the fudge as ‘craggy’ as, that’s what it usually is! So, I did hope that the boxes got a bit tossed about during the mail journey to make it a little more craggy by the time it reached it’s destination.

And, it obviously worked, as low and behold, we were awarded a Great Taste Award.

Judging

The way the food is judged is that a portion of the food is placed on a white plate with just the description of the food and that’s all the judges have to go on. No packaging, no marketing, no nothing, other than the actual food and the description.

They then rate the food and provide feedback.

Feedback

Here’s some of the feedback:

”This looks great, a traditional, crunchy fudge with a rich buttery smell. This is a taste of tradition, a taste of the country; it’s not daring or different, it is a simple classic product, made with care, using well sourced ingredients. The texture is genuinely melt in the mouth, not grainy, but also not smooth, with just the right amount of crunch”

 

So, we are now not just a Multi-Award Winning B&B but we are also Award Winning Food Producers!

An Award Winning Team

I am so thankful to my lovely team of angels that help me keep Fields Lodge running and providing an exceptional stay to our guests both here at Fields Lodge and also at the Marina Apartment.

And, now of course, they are busy packing and posting boxes of fudge all over the UK now that we have orders pouring in!
