  • March……. Madness/Matness?

Isn’t that what they say?? March is when we see the weather changing to Spring and the clocks going forward for summertime.

    The origins of the saying

Where on earth did that saying come from? Well, here’s a spoiler-you may be disappointed! I thought I would research it, thinking it may have had some historic origin, inspiring the Mad Hatter stories etc, but no! It started life in Illinois in a high school in the early 1900s. Then the phrase was used by a broadcaster of a basket ball game. The phrase was later applied to be trademarked by the IHSA(Illinois High School Association) and in 1996 the IHSA and the NCAA went to court over the phrase and ended with them agreeing on a dual use trademark. So, as it’s a trademarked phrase-does that mean I can’t use it here??? OOOO!!! worrying! I’ve just checked, and I’m not sure I can! So, I’ve altered the title slightly, just in case! I don’t think I can afford an American lawsuit!

  • Latitude Discount Voucher

    Fields Lodge Vouchers

    Discount vouchers for shopping locally

We are now offering Fields Lodge Vouchers, these are vouchers that offer discounts at shops, eateries and businesses in the locality.

I am keen to ensure my guests really enjoy and make the most of staying with me here, in this little corner of West Pembrokeshire. We have some great small local businesses that offer something a little different to the ‘usual’ offering at bigger town high streets, with their replicated large businesses and a uniform feel, no matter what town or city you are visiting.

I have recently been liaising with several local businesses to offer discounts/money off/free gifts for my guests when they use their establishments.

    What vouchers are  on Offer?

So, when you shop here, you get that one-off outfit not seen in Debenhams or that little Welsh delicacy that you just can’t get at home. You also have the chance to eat at some really great eateries and sample some outstanding local produce. Plus, quite often you get a much keener price than you can find, even on the internet plus, of course, some great old fashioned, personal service. You can also have the opportunity to take home a taste (or two) of Pembrokeshire and for those organised amongst you, you can buy your whole years Birthday and anniversary cards saving you a considerable amount in the meantime!

I have partnered with the following businesses to offer all my guests that book with me some great offerings. Once you book, I will send you codes so that you can access the offerings, and start planning what you will be spending your money on whilst you stay!

I know all these business owners myself and you can rest assured they are ready and willing to help you with whatever purchase you may have in mind. They really do care!

Here’s the current list, and this will change as time goes by.

  • Castles in Pembrokeshire, history coming alive

    Pembroke Castle
    Pembroke Castle

There are many Castles in Pembrokeshire and we are lucky to have such a wealth of them, many have survived the ravages of time and have some great stories to tell.

I would always advise taking a guided tour should you have the option, as this always brings history alive and fires up your own imagination whilst you are walking on ground that has been walked on by many hundreds of people over the ages.

  • Puffin on Skomer

    Skomer Island Puffins

It’s Puffin season on Skomer Island.

The season lasts from April to the end of July roughly, and during that time Skomer Island is home to one of the largest populations of Puffins in the world. The Puffins come to Skomer to breed. Skomer Island is an ideal place for them as there are no land predators here, so the pufflings can be hatched and tended to in relative safety. May and early June, are for me, the best times to visit Skomer as this is the time when all the bluebells are out, turning the island into a carpet of blue-it is truly magical at this time.

    Walking in Winter

Walking in Winter in Pembrokeshire is as good as pleasure as in the summertime-the coast takes on a moody veil and the weather is sure to make you feel alive. So, as long as you are well prepared, there’s no need to leave walking until the sun comes out!

    Walking in Winter Checklist

Personally I do not advocate walking when the weather is bad-howling rain and gales, but I think there’s nothing nicer than a fresh winter morning for a walk across the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, which, just so happens to be on our doorstep. And, as it is winter, you do need to take a few extra precautions, just incase the weather does change quickly.
