Well, we’ve been open now just over 4 weeks and are adapting to the ‘New Normal’
The Welsh Government have allowed us to open our Dining Room , and so, we are back to serving breakfasts in here, albeit, slightly differently.
Instead of the glorious breakfast buffet, which was your first course, we now serve this directly from the kitchen for you.
You still have all the choice, but rather than actually help yourself, you choose what you would like and we bring it to you.
It’s not the same, but of course, the food does still taste delicious-check out what one of our recent guests said!

And then, once you have finished your first course, we then deliver to you, your hot, main dish-again served directly from the kitchen for you.
Our guests have been very pleased with how we are adapting, and I don’t feel it’s impacting too much.
Maybe the biggest change is that we now have set eating times, to ensure we can maintain social distancing, by only having 2 tables in the dining room at any one time. So, when you arrive, you can choose from the available time slots which one you would like.
As far as your rooms go, once you have checked in, we are not entering again until you have checked out, and so, should you need anything topped up whilst on your stay, you can let us know and we will pop whatever you require in a box and leave outside your room, ready for when you return.
That seems to be going ok with our guests to date too!
We have an e-guest in room book now, instead of the book you may have flicked through once you’re in your room, and we send you a link to that before you arrive, so you can start to get excited about your stay even more now!

Here we are in lockdown at the moment in sunny Pembrokeshire. We are so lucky to be in this area to live through these lockdown weeks.
So many past and future guests have contacted me to let me know how much they are missing their stay in Pembrokeshire this year, so far. So I wanted to try and bring a taste of Pembrokeshire to those that are missing our great county.
Then, catch up with all the Puffin goings on right here!Find all the latest with Fields Lodge Boutique B&B and our well connected network of Puffin experts.
There is plenty of hype going on around the Corona virus at the moment, driven in no small way by the media. There are stats around showing that the ‘ordinary’ flu virus we deal with every year, still kills more than this virus does, and yet, do we go into a melt down about the flu virus each year?
I love the seasons, I love to see the changes and I look forward to certain things happening at certain times of the year.
As I write this(February) I have already enjoyed watching the first snowdrops appear-there are certain places in Pembrokeshire where you will have a wall of snowdrops and I do love to go visit these.
What to do on Poor Weather days in Pembrokeshire through the winter months
There’s a perception that the weather in Wales is always bad., always raining.
Even I used to think that, when I worked in my corporate job, so following on here are some of my favourite ideas of things to do on poor weather days in Pembrokeshire.
Importantly, what I have learned, from taking more notice of our weather, so that I can effectively advise guests, is that, that perception is wrong!
There are not THAT many days where, when we have ‘poor’ weather, that it’s in for the whole day. The weather does tend to come in and go out with the tides (I’m taking real old wives tales here!) and on bad weather days, that does give you some comfort.
In fact, it’s quite often true- ‘rain before 7(am), gone by 11(am)’. Guests have thought me a weather witch doctor when I have assured them that would happen on a particular day!
But, what to do if the weather is bad, and, for this, I am thinking more about the winter months here. If you’re looking for some summer months inspiration then check out my ideas here.
OOO-exciting! Th judges have been announced for the Eviivo Hospitality Awards. We are honoured to be amongst the finalists in these prestigious awards. And, we are in TWO categories! I feel we are flying the flag for Wales & Pembrokeshire.
So, who are we being judged by? Our breakfasts are going to be judged by a Celebrity Chef-very scary to be judged by someone so knowledgeable.
Whoop whoop! We have been shortlisted for TWO Eviivo awards!! A UK Based award ceremony, we have been successful in being declared finalists from all the applications received throughout the UK and couldn’t be more delighted!
We have been successful in the Tastiest Breakfast and also the Hidden Gem category. The awards ceremony takes place in October, so watch this space.
Because a lovely, frequent guest made me realise, that although I write often to my guests, to keep them updated on what’s going on here and any offers I have, I have never ACTUALLY pointed out the importance of booking direct through our own website.
Room Attendant of the Year!!! How fantastic is that??
In the Finals
Our lovely Rhiannon, one of my team of ‘angels’ has been shortlisted as one of only 6 finalists for this prestigious award. Out of all the hospitality businesses in the UK, when you think how many that would be-there’s over a 1000 in Pembrokeshire alone! She has been chosen and is now in the final 6. This is SOME achievement. To say we are proud is an understatement!

So, the Puffins have now left Skomer Island, and that now means they are now replaced by the seal pups!
Don’t you just love a seal? They’re sooo cute! How can you fail to not feel joy when you see a seal-even in a photo, never mind if you get to see them swimming in the water.
I took a visit to Skomer Island this week-into the last few days of the Puffins on the island for 2018. It has been a great year for Skomer Puffins–over 30,000 puffins were counted this year, and as far as a population is concerned, Skomer Puffins are bucking the trend, as other Puffin colonies elsewhere in the world are declining. So much so, that the Puffin is now classed as an endangered species.
How wonderful, the BBC have profiled the Puffins on Skomer Island!
I have long been an advocate of these fantastic birds. For me, they are such healing creatures, you cannot fail to watch a puffin and smile. They just make everything in the world alright. To see them clumsily trying to get airborne from the water is a delight. Watching them you would never think that they could fly the huge distances they do when they migrate from Skomer Island in late July each year.
Milford Waterfront is organising lots of events over the summer months. It’s great to see that the Port of Milford Haven has really got its’ eye on Tourism and making the Marina a ‘must visit’ place on the lists of locals and visitors alike.
July brings the beginning of the end of Puffin Season on Skomer Island.
The Puffins arrive in April for breeding season and then they reclaim their burrow from a previous year. They meet up with their partners and set about the business of breeding.
Weddings in Pembrokeshire-you may wonder how we could be involved in these. You’d be surprised!
From the usual hosting relatives that have had to travel, to hen pamper days, to hosting the bride & her entourage and organising make-up and hair stylists on the big day, to then being the romantic backdrop to the Wedding night, we have helped make many memories.
The FIRST Puffin has landed onto Skomer Island! It’s only the 19th of March and we have the first one landed-that’s early! And that means that the numbers will just grow as the days move closer towards April, which is when they usually arrive.
Over this weekend just gone, a hundred puffins were seen rafting in North Haven, which is one of their favoured bays on Skomer.
This is exciting news as it’s always great to know that the Puffin is growing from strength to strength 3bvbjjin numbers on Skomer.
So, to celebrate, any booking made this week direct with us here at Fields Lodge will receive a free Puffin Pack!!
