No More Queuing for Tickets to Visit Skomer

You no longer have to get up at an unearthly hour in the morning to go and queue for your tickets to go and visit the Puffins on Skomer Island.
I can’t tell you how much JOY this brings me, your humble breakfast chef, here at Fields Lodge Boutique B&B.
What Does this mean for you?
From a purely selfish perspective, this means for me no more ‘stupid-O’Clock’ get ups to get the Aga going to cook 8 breakfasts for guests looking to be down at the queuing station by 6am! (this meant I was up by 4am pretty much for every day May to July)
Anyway, enough about me…what does it mean for you?
This means you can enjoy your holiday lie-ins now, instead of having to set the alarm and get up by 5am. This has got to be the greatest win of the holiday season for any Puffin Lover.
You will now (shortly) be able to PRE-BOOK your tickets ONLINE to book your ferry seat and guarantee your place to make a land visit to Skomer Island. No more Queuing for tickets to visit Skomer!!!!!
I can’t tell you how much this makes me smile! Can you feel it??
After YEARS of trying to get the lovely family firm that runs the ferry to do this, this is the year that they are going to offer it.
I think the fact they had to do online booking for their small around Skomer trips in those short weeks that we were able to open last year, has given them the confidence to open it up and offer it to the Day Landing Trips for this year.
To be fair, when I used to approach the owners of the firm about this, their concern was the fact that each trip is weather dependant, and often decided on the day at 8.30am, whether they would be able to launch. And so, they had a concern about the actual mechanics of making refunds to circa 250 people each day, sometimes for 5 days on the trot. Totally understandable.
The Benefits of Covid
But hey-ho….one of the benefits of Covid, is that they have indeed been able to trial on a small scale, such this occurrence, and this experience has given them the confidence to roll this out to the Day Landing visits.
So, the good news is, you can book your stay with us, and also book your ticket to Skomer and know that you have guaranteed your space.
So many times, guests have wanted a lie in, and got down to the ticket office just too late, and have been turned away. I can assure you, that every guest that followed my advice, got on the boat…but sometimes that lie in, was just too inviting!
Now, no need to worry.
Online Pre-Booking
The online booking process is not live just yet, as we don’t yet know when trips like this will be able to re-commence, but I will let you know as soon as we get a date.
And, MORE GOOD NEWS…..the FIRST Puffins have been sighted, rafting in the basin at The Wick…..yipppeeeee!
