Gluten Free Bed and Breakfast Pembrokeshire

Gluten Free in Pembrokeshire-there’s a move towards it definately. Here at our Bed and Breakfast in Pembrokeshire, we offer a good range of Gluten Free options-bread, sausages, cereals, cakes, health bars, ketchup-all Gluten Free. Many of you that have been following my posts will know that I am on a quest to eat more healthily. One of those strands of thought is to be Gluten Free. I have had various intolerance tests over the years and gluten has always come up as a ‘red’, plus I do feel unwell after eating too much of it-which isn’t hard these days, as gluten is in nearly everything that is processed.

My journey to Gluten Free

So, to help my quest, I have taken various cooking courses in gluten free cooking and am an avid buyer of the new healthier, clean living cookery books-of which there are an abundance! It’s not just gluten, it’s sugar and to a lesser degree(for me) dairy, that I am trying to mindful of when I am eating. I’m failing badly on the sugar however, being busy pulls me back into quick fixes and hey-ho, I’ve grabbed a bar of chocolate from or honesty basket here to see me through when I don’t really want to stop to cook myself something. Room for improvement there, as a teacher once said to me! For those that want a low carb option as well as being Guten Free, I make that bread also-it’s predominately seeds and psyllium husks and is a good base under a poached egg!

Coming back to the Gluten Free here though at Fields Lodge. In Pembrokeshire there is a healthy movement to offering gluten free alternatives as more the norm, which is great-lets see more of it and Healthaspire Nutrition Centre in Milford Haven is setting up a page where accredited business are listed who offer ‘free from’ food to customers. I am delighted I was one of the first businesses to be accredited.

 

 

Although my kitchen is not wheat free, I do serve wheat bread and make bread, I do have a separate area in the kitchen dedicated to Gluten Free-no wheat or gluten products go anywhere near this area. I have separate utensils for gluten free production-a Gluten Free Chopping Board, Bread knife and toaster. I also have a bread maker that is dedicated to Gluten Free as I like to make as much of my offering myself. However, the Tan Y Castell bakery in Naberth (who make the Queen’s favourite Welsh Cakes) do make a really lovely seeded brown Gluten free loaf that I do use here, as it’s so nice. And our Welsh Bakery in Milford Haven also make a great white Gluten Free that I do use on occasion too. Both of these are much nicer than the processed bread you find in supermarkets and have less ingredients!

I am pleased to offer Gluten Free Packed Lunches also, for those that want to have day out walking around Skomer or just to take as a picnic on the beach.
