Gossip this week
Well, here’s the gossip from this week in the B&B, we have been quite busy(as always!).
We have the lovely Nia, who has recently started, is now honing her culinary skills and is practising cooking our tasty breakfast dishes. She has had a personal achievement this week- she has passed her Driving Test! There’ll be no stopping her now!
Tyler has been back for a week or so(before she jets off on holidays and then toodles back to university) and has taken the helm of early morning cooking, which has allowed me to have a few later mornings-although my body refuses to sleep after 6am, plus Ollie is so used to being up by then, he doesn’t understand what a ‘lie-in’ is!
And Martin, who is our IT saviour for the summer holidays is busy getting all things IT sorted. I think I give him a new headache each day! But, he is tackling each project with gusto and has been a great help. Look out on our website soon, for a bit of fun he has organised on ‘Page 404’-not that I would want you to find a page 404 very often, but, from now on, if you do, then you can have some fun!
Rhiannon and Kathryn have surpassed themselves and have achieved their Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate, and Martin(not that he knows yet) will be doing a man job of putting all our Food Hygiene certificates to hang on the wall in the kitchen. Very well done girls, for that!
Kathryn has also had her A level results which were as good as she needed to get into the university and course of her choice, so we will be saying goodbye for a while to Kathryn in a month or so, as she starts to explore pastures new.
Dan had the results she needed too-so everyone is happy!
Team Day Out
More ‘gossip’ as a team day this week, I took everyone to The Grove in Narberth for a yummy lunch. We started with cocktails on the terrace whilst we chose our food and then enjoyed a scrummy 3 course lunch. Excellent service, lovely food, great surroundings and fab company-what more could you want?
New Guest Facilities
We have also, this week, installed a new super-duper fridge in the dining room to keep cool the honesty basket drinks, be a safe storage place for pre-ordered ‘Supper Platters’-that we are now starting to offer(watch this space) and also to house chilled items for our guests use. It’s a lovely shiny black fridge with a pre-set temperature and display, so we can always be sure it’s holding the correct temperature-we’re back to food hygiene again!
And also, we have some really cute new Facilities Trays in the rooms-lovely little energy efficient kettles and cute little wooden trays with compartments for all our tea and coffee choices. They look really smart, I’m very pleased with them.
And even more gossip, we have had presents galore printed up( thank you St Brides Bay Clothing on Milford Marina) for the team-new T shirts and some lovely new waterproof coats, so, when you’re in the area you’ll be able to spot a Fields Lodge team member anywhere. Tyler is taking hers back with her to university, so I think I shall have to pay her commission for free advertising up there on any bookings we make. We’ve also had some blankets printed for guests to use and take out, either into the garden as sometimes it gets a bit chilly whilst you’re watching the sunset, or to borrow for a picnic. And the last thing ( I think!) we’ve had is some new logo’d Tea Towels for guests use in the rooms also. I know when I’ve gone away, I quite often have had a cup of coffee and then wanted a herbal tea later, so to be able to rinse your cup out and dry it up with the Tea Towel is a useful little addition!
New pots for the front
We’ve had some new Pots for the garden delivered. St Ishmaels Nurseries, were very good and provided me with a great display based on a very vague brief from me-I love flowers, but it is so windy here(we’re deceptively high) and we get the salty air from the beach here on top of the wind, so flowers do have their work cut out surviving. So we nw have some more ‘hardy’ type plants that should dwell a little happier-here’s hoping!
And inbetween all this, our last bits of gossip- we have had meetings with our brilliant designer, Rob, at Blue Fin, to finalise our new Guest Information booklets and some other cool stuff(wait and see) and also met with Damon of Dotnetworks, to play about with a few things on our website.
Phew! And that’s not really all that’s gone on this week, but when I look back, no wonder I feel like I run around like a headless chicken! It’s all worth it though, when you get great reviews-we’ve had some lovely reviews on Trip Advisor and Booking.com over the last week and we are No.1 B&B in Milford Haven on Trip Advisor, so I’m very pleased about that, and very grateful to my lovely team for ensuring we stay there!
Signing off for now-Jayne x
