Yaaay! Milford Fish Festival is nearly here. It starts on Saturday 25th June at Milford Fish Docks and Milford Marina, and is the beginning of festivities that make up Pembrokeshire Fish Week- an award winning festival and one of the great food festivals in the UK.
A competition to win a stay at Fields Lodge B&B
This year, the Milford Haven Port Authority ran a competition to win free tickets to the Fish Festival, plus spending money plus a 2 night stay for 4 people at our lovely B&B here-I’m pleased to say that I have been in contact with the winner and her and her family are coming down for both days, and it’s really lovely as they used to live here some time ago, so it will be a trip down memory lane for them.
The Fish Festival is on over the weekend, 25th & 26th June and Pembrokeshire Fish Week runs until Sunday 3rd of July.
I’m doubly excited this year, as I missed last years and this was the first year that the ‘Fish Chowder Trail’ was on around the docks. I had great reports as to how fab everyone’s chowder was and I know it was very close when deciding the winner from the votes cast by those doing the tasting.
Tickets for Milford Fish Festival
The tickets for this year are available online and are a great deal at £6 for both days plus entry into the Chowder Trail, and if it is like last year, on the trail you were given your own bowl(specially commissioned for the Fish Festival), which you then got to keep! Bargain!
What’s on at Milford Fish Festival
Although it’s tagged as a ‘Fish Festival’, there’s a lot more food there than just fish. It’s a great place to try many great local producers and craftsmen/women. There’s food demonstrations and lots of free tastings plus great live music and bands. From the suppliers already planned to exhibit, I can personally recommend Gethins Cider, made in Haverfordwest, Isea surfwear-handcrafted, ethical surf wear, Caws Cenarth Cheese-one of my favourites, and it freezes really well, so you can buy lots.
Pembrokeshire Moments are exhibiting-they make really lovely gifts to remind you of Pembrokeshire, I have some lovely Tea Towels with all the names of Pembrokeshire Beaches on them. I’m on a quest to visit them all, as, surprisingly, there are a few I haven’t yet visited! Also, Pembrokeshire Lottery will be there-these lovely people helped me with an interest free loan to start the B&B, so I am very fond of helping them. You can help too, by taking part in the Pembrokeshire Lottery, which then holds draws weekly and a lucky winner then has a cheque for £2000. Nice!
There are many other stallholders and exhibitors already planned, too many to write about really!
For food demonstrations, there is a past semi-finalist of the Great British Bake-Off and Will Holland from the award winning Coast Restaurant over at Saundersfoot, plus Lisa Fearn from the Pumpkin Patch plus many more-you will probably find me here, in the front row. I love cooking demos!
